Your first option is to design and
setup your own site. This is generally not a good idea. I know from
experience how many factors are involved in developing a quality web
site. These factors include site structure and navigation and graphics
design. Sure you can "wing it" and use a canned web template, some cute
clip art, and sales copy from your latest brochure. But guess what kind
of impression you'll leave with prospective customers who visit your
site?
Your second option is to hire a web
development firm to provide you with customized web site design services.
Your site will look great, but this option could easily cost you thousands
of dollars. In addition, many of these firms focus almost exclusively
on web design and ignore or pay lip service to the marketing and promotion
side of the success equation. Even great looking sites can fall into
the trap of emphasizing glitz over the fundamentals involved in building
a sales-focused site.
Your third option is to hire a freelance
web site designer who can develop a professional, sales-focused site
at a price you can afford. Make sure you also get help with the web
marketing and promotion side of things.
